Multi-State Minor Emancipation Attorneys at Stange Law Firm

Multi-State Minor Emancipation Attorneys at Stange Law Firm

Under certain state law, a non-custodial parent’s child support obligation ends when his or her child reaches 18 — unless the child decides to go to college full-time. In that case, child support is extended until the child reaches 21. Emancipation laws in your state are important to many parents — especially those who may have a continuing child support obligation after their children reach the age of majority. These include parents of college-bound children as well as the parents of children with serious disabilities that may extend the child support duty beyond the child’s majority.

At Stange Law Firm, PC, we can answer your questions about your child support obligations to college-age children. We can also represent clients in emancipation proceedings, helping them protect their interests in court. These include both parents and children.

There are several different situations where a child can become emancipated:

  • Reaching the age of majority
  • Entering into military service
  • Getting married
  • Becoming voluntarily no longer in the care, custody, or control of either parent
