KIRK C.STANGE: At Stange Law Firm, we believe, as a firm, that it's vital for society that kids grow up having dads. So
dads that want to be active participants in their kids lives, Stange Law Firm is very interested in representing those types of people.
The clients can do lots of things to help themselves in child custody cases. One, and I think most important, is looking like a reasonable parent whose actually out for the best interest of their child versus being a war maker in the court room. It can also be little things, like having a work schedule that's conducive to joint custody or sole custody, living in a good school district, abiding by court orders. I think all of these things can help dads immensely in custody cases.
If an unmarried dad is not in a position to marry the mom for whatever reason that the earlier they go to the courthouse to establish their custody rights, the more fondly more courts are going to look upon them because it looks like that they're actively interested in being a part of their child's life.
The good news is that in the state of Missouri, there's the presumption of joint custody. So dads that want to be active participants in their children's lives can be if they make the proper decisions in their family law cases.
