Massachusetts Bill Proposes to Ban Sex during Divorce to Help Protect Children
If you are in a divorce and are living with children in Massachusetts, having sex at home or dating could soon be banned until all divorce proceedings are finalized, pending the passage of a new bill. You would first need to have a judge sign off and approval if you want to have sex.Below is how the proposed legislation reads:In divorce, separation, or 209A proceedings involving children and a marital home, the party remaining in the home shall not conduct a dating or sexual relationship within the home until a divorce is final and all financial and custody issues are resolved, unless the express permission is granted by the courts.

The bill was sponsored by State Sen. Richard Ross (R) on behalf of his constituent Wrentham Selectman Robert Leclair and was originally filed in early 2013. It received an extension on March 20 to be considered by the State Legislature until June 30, as reported by Think Progress.

Sen. Ross does not support the bill but sponsored it as a courtesy to his constituent, his staff told Think Progress. Leclair, his constituent, is reported to have gone through a bitter divorce himself and is the former president of Fathers United for Equal Justice. When speaking back in 2011 on the proposal, Leclair said the bill would help protect children during the divorce process, according to Russia Today.

The bill would have to pass the state legislature and then be approved by the state’s Governor for it to pass into law.
